Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Tap ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, the third-party services we rely on, and the choices available to users.

Information We Collect

When using Tap, we may collect:

How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

Fair Use and Tap Limits

To encourage meaningful interactions and help prevent spam or abuse, Tap applies reasonable limits to how many taps can be sent to the same friend within a given period. Optional rewarded ads may temporarily allow additional taps within those limits, but the app is designed to promote thoughtful communication rather than high-volume messaging.

Account Information and Social Features

Tap is a social application. Your username, profile information, friend connections, taps, mood taps, and related activity may be visible to other users as part of the app's core functionality.

Advertising and Rewarded Ads

Tap may display optional rewarded advertisements through third-party advertising providers such as Google AdMob. Rewarded ads allow users to unlock additional app functionality, such as sending extra taps after reaching the daily tap limit.

Advertising providers may collect and process limited device, usage, diagnostic, advertising, product-interaction, and approximate-location information to serve advertisements, measure ad performance, prevent fraud or abuse, and comply with their own policies and legal obligations. This may include IP-derived coarse location, device or app identifiers, ads viewed, interaction with rewarded ads, crash data, performance data, and other diagnostic data. Their collection and use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.

Tap configures AdMob requests as non-personalized and does not request access to Apple's advertising identifier through App Tracking Transparency. Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) is used where required to obtain and manage privacy choices before ads are requested. Where Google requires a persistent privacy-options entry point, it is available in Tap under Settings → Privacy choices. Declining consent or an unavailable ad does not prevent normal use of Tap and does not grant an ad reward.

Push Notifications

If enabled by the user, Tap may send push notifications related to taps, mood taps, friend requests, Daily Tap reminders, achievements, and optional product updates. Users can disable notifications at any time through their device settings, and some notification preferences may also be managed inside the app.

Contacts and Friend Discovery

If you choose to use Tap's contact-based invitation or friend discovery features, Tap may request access to your device contacts. Contact access is optional and is used only to help you select and invite a friend. Contacts are read locally. Tap does not upload or store your full contact list or contact names. After you choose a contact, only the selected phone number is normalized and SHA-256 hashed on your device before the hash is sent to Tap's server. The hash is treated as personal data and is used only for invitations and friend discovery. A name is sent only if you type it manually into the invitation form.

Data Storage and Security

Tap uses Supabase as its secure backend infrastructure provider for authentication, database storage, and server-side functionality required for the app to operate. User data is securely transmitted to and stored on these servers in order to provide core features such as accounts, friendships, taps, notifications, moderation, and synchronization across devices.

Reasonable technical and organizational measures are taken to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Third-Party Services

Tap may use third-party services including:

Children's Privacy

Tap is not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Rights and Choices

You may delete your account at any time through the app's Settings screen. Deleting your account permanently removes your account and associated personal data from Tap, except where limited information must be retained for security, legal, or operational reasons.
